RESPONSIBILITIES

Northern Illinois University (NIU) invites applications for the anticipated position of Associate Director with the Center for Black Studies. The Associate Director holds a 12 month Supportive Professional Staff contract, reports directly to the Center for Black Studies Director.

The Associate Director will teach one class per semester, serve as the liaison to and advise student organizations, and responsible for communicating and interacting with faculty and staff.

The Associate Director primarily will be responsible for the recruitment and advisement of students in the Black Studies Minor, implement the annual assessment plan, serve as the liaison to the Division of Student Affairs, the Resource Centers, work with the Study Abroad Office in developing and directing study abroad programs, identify and develop funding opportunities, and oversee the budgets for programs and events related to the Center for Black Studies.

The Associate Director will plan programs and events such as Black History Month, organize and develop social media plan, and develop and implement marketing plan.

Salary: $48,000 - $52,000

REQUIRED SKILLS

• M.A. or M.S.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in higher education
• Teaching background in Black Studies
• Background and knowledge of assessment
• Working knowledge of external funding and proposal development
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, supervisory, and oral and written skills
• Effective in working with students, faculty, and staff
• Willingness to work some evenings and/or weekends

PREFERRED SKILLS

PhD/EdD or equivalent terminal degree
