Skills
A Ph.D. in Political Science or a closely related field is required. The selected candidate must have the ability to offer senior faculty leadership and make an immediate contribution to doctoral teaching and advising. We seek a candidate with demonstrated excellence in both scholarship and teaching, including the ability to instruct a diverse student body. The successful candidate will specialize in security studies, broadly defined, and will have an active research program in international security, international conflict, foreign policy, national security, civil-military relations, human security, resource scarcity and conflict, or a related area. The Department is particularly interested in candidates with the ability to teach in an additional subfield of international relations. Preference will be given to applicants who can also offer courses related to East Asia, the Middle East, or South Asia. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be expected to contribute to the departments research tools course offerings.

Responsibilities
The Department of Political Science at Northern Illinois University invites applications from qualified and experienced candidates in international relations for an anticipated faculty opening, beginning August 16, 2010. The appointment will be at the rank of tenured associate or full professor.
