Required Skills
Earned Ph.D. and a research record appropriate for appointment as a full or associate professor with tenure; the field of scholarship is open. Additional requirements include at least 5 years of experience in domestic or international NGOs, including some combination of research, teaching, consulting, or managerial experience and a record of obtaining external funding for NGO-related activities and programming.

Preferred Skills
Experience in public service leadership and/or experiential learning. The normal teaching load for the director is 1 course per semester, which will include undergraduate, masters (MA and MPA), and doctoral courses. The ideal candidate will begin January 2010 and be able to matriculate the first undergraduates in the new CLCE major in the fall 2010 term.

Responsibilities
The Center for NGO Leadership & Development is one of NIUs strategic planning initiatives, a new interdisciplinary unit that involves multiple departments and colleges. A primary responsibility of the director is providing leadership and teaching in a new undergraduate major in Community Leadership & Civic Engagement (CLCE). The director must be able to lead diverse faculty, staff, and students associated with NGOLD to achieve its mission of integrating undergraduate and graduate curricula and conducting scholarly research relevant to domestic and international settings. A primary goal of the center is engagement, outreach, and consulting, particularly with some of the 9,000 NGOs in the Chicago area.
