Required
Skills
Bachelor's Degree and/or Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, and Illinois Interpreter Licensure (minimum of Intermediate Proficiency).
Preferred Skills
Some administrative/management experience is preferred. Experience working in a college or university setting, and knowledge of state and federal requirements regarding students with disabilities are preferred.
Responsibilities
The Interpreter Coordinator, Center for Access-Ability Resources (CAAR) is an integral member of a staff responsible for the development and implementation of activities, programs, policies, procedures, and services that support and insure the academic and extra-curricular programs of students with disabilities enrolled at the University. The Coordinator will: 1) coordinate services to persons with disabilities, particularly sign language interpreting services, CART services, and real-time notetaking.; 2) provide direct interpreting services; 3) supervise and handle HR needs for interpreters and CART providers; 4) assist with budget management of services, 5) and assist with other duties as needed.

Northern Illinois University is located in DeKalb, Illinois, a community of 43,000 people, 65 miles west of Chicago. Approximately 25,000 students are enrolled in NIU's undergraduate and graduate level programs. The Center for Access-Ability Resources (CAAR) provides services to qualified students with disabilities and is staffed by a Director, several Coordinators, an Interpreter Coordinator, interpreters, secretary, graduate assistants and student employees.
