AMERICA READS TUTOR - Summer Program

Job Description
Tutors will work with elementary school readers and writers at the NIU Literacy Clinic on Bethany Road. Responsibilities include preparing appropriate lesson plans for the tutoring sessions and maintaining detailed progress records/portfolios for each student. Mandatory training sessions will be held before the summer session begins.

Requirements
Qualified applicants MUST 1. be undergraduate NIU students (in good academic standing) eligible for work study based on a completed 2009-2010 FAFSA; 2. be COMPLETELY FLUENT in English (high academic level verbal and writing skills - English/Spanish bilingual students are encouraged to apply); 3. be available to work at least two 3-hour shifts twice a week (Mon&Wed/Tues&Thurs) during daytime (9-5) hours the ENTIRE duration of the program: June 22 to July 30, 2009; 4. have own, reliable transportation; and 5. clear a criminal background check. Applicants must be able to work effectively with elementary school children and keep students engaged during the tutoring session.

Starting Date: June 15, 2009

Duration: Summer with potential for fall & spring employment

Positions Available: 8

Work Type: Workstudy Only

Pay Rate: 8.50/hour
