Central Management Services (CMS) has revised the dependent re-certification process for members. Dependent children age 19 through age 22 who are full time students must provide proof of full time enrollment in both the fall and spring semesters. Employees will receive a request for this information each semester and will be required to provide proof from the school of full time enrollment that can include a letter from the Office of the School Registrar, an abbreviated transcript, copy of enrollment from the university website (providing the student’s name is shown), a tuition bill marked paid or receipt of partial payment providing it shows full time status.
Dependents in the “other” or handicapped categories will only need to verify eligibility once a year during the fall period. Children may qualify as handicapped if they are unmarried, eligible to be claimed for income tax purposes, and have been continuously disabled from a cause originating prior to age 19. Dependents in the “other” category must be unmarried, eligible to be claimed for income tax purposes, and continuously enrolled as a dependent on the State plan prior to February 11, 1983.
