HOLIDAY STAFFING University offices will be closed from December 24, 2007, through January 1, 2008. University offices will reopen on Wednesday, January 2, 2008. The university will be in operation through December 21. It will be necessary to maintain operational coverage until the close of business on December 21. However, a liberal protocol should be adopted in terms of staff vacation approvals for December 21.

December 24, 25, 26, 27, 2007, and January 1, 2008, are paid university holidays. Hourly employees in positions not covered by collective bargaining agreements will be paid at the regular rate of pay plus one-and-one-half times the regular rate of pay for all assigned hours worked on any of the above-named holidays or, if both the employee and supervisor agree, by compensatory time off at the rate of time-and-one-half plus the regular holiday pay. Employees covered by collective bargaining agreements will be compensated in accordance with the respective agreements. Employees covered by prevailing rates will be compensated in accordance with local area agreements.

December 28 and 31 are paid administrative closure days. Employees required to work on these days will be given time off on an hour-for-hour basis, to be used by June 30, 2009, or receive additional straight-time pay as determined by the department.

PAYROLL Direct deposits will be credited to employee accounts on Monday, December 31. Printed paychecks will be sent to your home address. NIU cannot guarantee U.S. mail delivery times; however, paychecks will be mailed early on payday in order to arrive at your currently listed home address in the timeliest manner possible. If you have any questions concerning holiday payroll distributions, or if you do not wish to have your check sent by U.S. mail, please contact Kathy Smith at 753-3601 or by email at klsmith@niu.edu. Subject to notification being provided to Kathy Smith prior to December 20, 2007, your paycheck can be made available for pickup at the Swen Parson Payroll Distribution Center on January 2 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
