Recently Senate Bill 1292 was amended to incorporate many of the Pension Reform measures outlined in The Governor's Budget proposal released March 18 and the bill is moving through the legislative process.  A number of employees have made inquiries regarding the status of this bill and employee benefits.  Importantly, SB1292 contains no changes in pension benefits or contribution rates for current employees.  While the bill is still subject to amendment and modification we feel it is important to distribute this information given the level of interest and concern.

We will continue to update the pension-related information as it proceeds through the legislative process.  The President's Office has also established a FY2010 Budget update section, including a Pension Reform information tab, on the NIU website http://www.niu.edu.
