University Holidays for 2010 MEMORANDUM TO: Faculty and Staff of the NIU Community FROM: Steve Cunningham, Associate Vice President for Administration and Human Resources DATE: October 8, 2009 RE: University Holidays for 2010 With the advice of the University Council, President Peters has approved the following holiday schedule for 2010: New Year's Day (Holiday) | Friday | January 1, 2010 | Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Holiday) | Monday | January 18, 2010 | Memorial Day (Holiday) | Monday | May 31, 2010 | Independence Day (Holiday) | Monday | July 5, 2010 | Labor Day (Holiday) | Monday | September 6, 2010 | Thanksgiving (Holiday) | Thursday | November 25, 2010 | Floating Holiday | Friday | November 26, 2010 | Floating Holiday | Thursday | December 23, 2010 | December 25 (Holiday) | Friday | December 24, 2010 | Floating Holiday | Monday | December 27, 2010 | Floating Holiday | Tuesday | December 28, 2010 | Administrative Closure | Wednesday | December 29, 2010 | Administrative Closure | Thursday | December 30, 2010 | New Years Day (Holiday Observed) | Friday | December 31, 2010 | New Years Day (Holiday) | Saturday | January 1, 2011 | Hourly employees in positions not covered by collective bargaining agreements will be paid at the regular rate of pay plus 1-1/2 times the regular rate of pay for all hours worked on any of the above named holidays or, if mutually agreed to, by compensatory time off at the rate of time-and-one-half plus holiday pay. Employees covered by prevailing rates will be compensated in accordance with local area agreements. Employees required to work on December 29 and 30 (administrative closure days) will be given time off on an hour-for-hour basis to be used by June 30, 2011, or receive additional straight-time pay at the option of the department. Per Campus Parking Services, parking enforcement for the 2009/2010 holiday period will be as follows: December 7-11, 2009 | FINALS WEEK: Permits required - parking regulations enforced. | December 14-23, 2009 | Permits required - parking regulations enforced. | December 24, 2009 | No NIU parking permits required - other parking regulations enforced. | January 3, 2010 | | January 4-15, 2010 | Permits required - parking regulations enforced. | January 11, 2010 | FIRST WEEK OF CLASSES: Permits required - parking regulations enforced. | January 18, 2010 | Holiday (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day): No NIU parking permits required - other parking regulations enforced. | NOTE: The visitor's lot will be open at no charge from December 24, 2009 through January 3, 2010.
