Revisiting the Lost Art of Letter Writing

Friday, September 28 from 12 - 1 p.m.

During this session we will decorate envelopes, different pens, stationery and other fun mail-related items so you can send a note to a friend, family member or colleague.  Please bring postcards or other mail items that you want to work on.  Some materials will be provided. 

Dine Out and Stay on Track

Wednesday, October 3, 12 - 1 p.m.

Do you love to go out to eat but have trouble staying on track? Have no fear! Come join Nutrition and Dietetics intern Emily Burns as she deciphers through menu lingo and describes how to balance frequent eating out with a long term healthy eating plan. With the proper knowledge and tools, Emily will make eating out fun and healthy!  

Deciding to Retire from NIU

There are still things you will need to do on campus after you have your SURS retirement appointment. This presentation will focus on and teach you the step-by-step NIU processes that will help you retire successfully.

Come join us for a Lunch and Learn where you’ll learn all the basics needed for building a balanced menu for you and your family.  We’ll cover mixing and matching healthy food options for variety in your meals, along with appropriate portion sizes.  You’ll leave with quick and easy recipe ideas, using pantry staples that you can start cooking up right away!

Caregiving Support Group

Wednesday, November 14. 12 - 1 p.m.

This support group is for employees who are experiencing challenges with caregiving of a loved one.  This is a very difficult time as your roles are changed and you are now a caregiver. Assisting loved ones who need additional care for themselves is challenging while you try to continue to work. It is a time when you need to find many new resources to meet your loved one’s physical and emotional needs.  Many times their needs and care are in conflict with their wishes.  The purpose of this group is to have a confidential place where you can exchange information and provide support to each other.  All the research on dealing with stressful times suggests that sharing your experiences helps you feel you are not alone and increases your ability to cope.

Interested in decreasing your meat intake? Come and learn about the advantages and challenges of limiting meat in your diet, ways to continue to receive enough protein, tips on healthy meal planning, and ways to avoid anemia and muscle loss on a plant friendly diet.
