Planning to vote on Nov. 8? No problem—there's no class on Election Day, so be sure to head to your voting location and then make plans to use the rest of your day off from classes to catch up on assignments and prep for rest of week.

Need additional help in a course or have questions about your syllabus? Faculty set aside time for you to connect and ask questions one-on-one. Take advantage of it! Along with our guide to using office hours, these five tips will help you get the most out of this valuable time.

Spring 2023 class registration begins today.
|
Now is the time to register for spring 2023 classes. Read the tips below and learn when to register and how to register for classes.
1. If you have not met with your advisor, do so. They are here to help you.
- It’s important to stay on track to graduation and your advisor is here to help ensure you are heading in the right direction.
- Remote advising is available. Options for remote advising could include virtual video conferences, phone calls, NIU emails or IM chats. Schedule an advising appointment through Navigate Student by clicking Appointments and selecting the "Advising" service, or contact your academic advising office to learn more about your options.
- Come prepared to your meeting with any concerns that you have. Your advisor can help answer your questions and point you to available resources.
2. Log in to MyNIU and Navigate Student.
- In MyNIU, you can check your enrollment date—the date and time you are able to register for classes.
- In Navigate Student, you can see a list of important, time-sensitive To-Do items related to class registration. You can also schedule an appointment with your academic advisor through Navigate Student.
- In both MyNIU and Navigate Student, you can see any holds on your account that may prevent you from registering for classes. Learn more about holds on student accounts.

Open forums scheduled for Dean of College of Health and Human Sciences candidates.
The campus community has the opportunity to participate in a series of in-person open forums where they can meet and ask questions of the finalists for the position of Dean, College of Health and Human Sciences at Northern Illinois University. A Zoom link is provided for those unable to attend in-person.
Each session will take place in Altgeld Hall, room 315, and will last 60 minutes. All participants, virtual or in person, are encouraged to fill out an evaluation of the candidate which will be sent after each session.

President's Holiday Card Contest now accepting entries.
Tis' the season for NIU's annual holiday card contest where students are encouraged to submit a design that will spread warmth and good cheer to our entire community. This wonderful tradition provides an opportunity to showcase student talent and provide a message that conveys the university's care and respect for all. All entries are due by 5 p.m. on Nov. 28, 2022. Visit the President's website to learn more about this year's theme, entry guidelines and prizes.

It's time to renew your FAFSA.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available for the 2023-2024 academic year. Renew yours as soon as possible. The FAFSA is your application for federal financial aid such as grants, work-study and student loans. Some funds are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so the sooner you submit your completed FAFSA, the more likely you are to receive assistance if you are eligible.

Schedule your free hearing test today.
Are you exposed to loud sounds or music? Do you often ask others to repeat what they said? NIU students, faculty and staff are invited to take part in a free 30-minute hearing test at The Hearing Conservation Center, sponsored by the School of Allied Health and Communicative Disorders.
Services include: hearing health screener, noise exposure assessment, outer/middle ear screening and hearing protection consultation.
