It's time to file your 2024-2025 FAFSA.
|
The FAFSA form is now open for aid for the 2024-25 school year (July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025). The priority deadline for returning MAP recipients (i.e., students who received MAP funds during the prior academic year and continue to meet all eligibility requirements) is February 1, 2024.
The Financial Aid and Scholarship Office is hosting FAFSA completion workshops this week!

2024-25 Newman Civic Fellowship Nominations Due Jan. 25, 2024
The NIU Newman Civic Fellowship Program offers you opportunities to expand your learning, make an impact and create meaningful professional connections.
Nominations are open for our 2024-25 program and will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024. Nominations may only be submitted by faculty or staff members. The fellow is announced by April.

The Spring 2024 Involvement Fair takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 17 and Thursday, Jan. 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m in the Duke Ellington Ballroom at the Holmes Student Center. Come and meet members of NIU's active student organizations, connect with NIU departments and get more information about upcoming campus events. Learn more about the two day event.

Upcoming bridge repairs to impact campus traffic.
The City of DeKalb will continue repairing the bridge located on Lucinda Ave beginning this week. Construction is expected to end in June. More information, including a detour route is available by visiting the City of DeKalb’s website or by viewing NIU's interactive map.

Applying for scholarships is a great way to help pay for your NIU education. Scholarships do not need to be repaid and are awarded based on a variety of factors, including academic achievement and financial need.
You can now search and apply for most NIU scholarships online in MyScholarships. The deadline for many scholarships is January 31, 2024.

NIU Outdoor Adventures has everything you need to enjoy this beautiful snowy weather including equipment rentals (snowboards, cross-country skis, ice skates and snowboards) and epic adventures. The Adventure Center has new updated hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Friday and Sunday. Reach out for more information and stop by the Recreation Center to meet Shannon Range, our new assistant director for Outdoor Adventures.

2024 National Day of Racial Healing
NIU’s Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Center will host two events to celebrate the 2024 National Day of Racial Healing.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 in the lower level of the Holmes Student Center, join our Division of Academic Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and our Division of Student Affairs to take the #HowWeHeal pledge. Find out how you can be a part of this national conversation.
Then, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23 in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium in the Holmes Student Center, continue your #HowWeHeal pledge and attend a follow-up film screening and discussion. Come and watch “Cracking the Codes: The System of Racial Inequality” followed by an interactive discussion with the Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Center facilitators Joe Flynn, Ph.D., and Yixin Yu. Popcorn and beverages will be provided. Please register for the event by Jan. 22.

Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Insights

This week, you will recieve a link to the student survey from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the institutional accrediting association that is comprehensively evaluating our school this year. Input received from these surveys is important, as it helps identify both strengths and weaknesses at NIU, as viewed through the lens of our students. The survey is brief and should take less than five minutes to complete by Thursday, Jan. 25.
