New Victor E. Huskie statue to be unveiled during Homecoming
Huskie pride will remain on full display in downtown DeKalb even after this year’s 116th Homecoming celebration with the unveiling of a new Victor E. Huskie statue.
Presented by FNBO, the statue will be unveiled at the corner of South Second Street and Lincoln Highway as part of the Homecoming Block Party on Thursday, Oct. 12.

Get your NIU Homecoming Football tickets.
NIU Huskies Football vs. Ohio University Bobcats Saturday, Oct. 14.
As a student, you get free admission to all Huskie Athletics regular season home events. All student tickets are claimed by the NIU mobile ticket system. We recommend that you download tickets to your phone prior to game day. Before entering the event on game day, simply open the digital wallet on your phone and select the game ticket to be scanned for entry. Get step-by-step instructions on how to add and manage tickets to either your Apple or Android phone.

Holmes Student Center adjusts building hours for Oct. 12 and 13
Due to a large event the HSC will be closing at 6 p.m. on Oct. 12 and 13. Everyone will be expected to leave the building at this time. The building will reopen for guests at 7 p.m. and all guests will be required to enter the building through the east entrance on Normal Road.

Homecoming road closure.
On Friday, Oct. 13, 2023 and Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 several roads on the west campus will be closed due to Homecoming activities.
The area indicated in yellow on the above map will be a pedestrian-only zone. If you need to deliver to this area, the only entry will be through the intersection of Grant Drive North and Grant Drive East, indicated by a red star on the above map.
The road closure will be in effect from 9 p.m. each night and removed at 5 a.m. Please direct any questions to the NIU Police Department at 815-753-1212.

Prepare now for spring classes.
Now is the time to start preparing to register for spring 2024 classes, which begins on Nov. 6, 2023. Learn when to register and how to register for classes. Begin by meeting with your academic advisor. It’s important to stay on track to graduation and your advisor is here to help ensure you are heading in the right direction. Shedule an appointment through Navigate Student by clicking Appointments and selecting the "Advising" service, or contact your academic advising office to learn more about your options.

In case you haven’t yet heard the news, we’re reaching out to let you know that the launch date for the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, has been extended from Oct. 1 until sometime in December.
With a revamp of the FAFSA experience underway, a specific go-live date has yet to be announced. More information can be found here: StudentAid.gov/decemberfafsa.

Ellington's Restaurant opens Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Huskies! Be sure to mark your calendars! Ellington’s Restaurant reopens its doors Tuesday, Oct. 10. Each week, BADM 303 students create and prepare themed meals for you, your friends and your colleagues to enjoy. Service takes place every Tuesday through Dec. 5 (closed Nov. 21). Menus are posted to both our Ellington’s website and the NIU event calendar. We thank you in advance for your continued support as our students gain hands-on experience. No reservations required. Dining Dollars, Huskies Bucks and debit/credit accepted.
Football Game Day parking lot closures
Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, NIU is hosting a home football game that will impact parking. The following parking lots will be closed beginning midnight Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, and will reopen one hour after the football game ends
- Lot PS, southwest of Stevenson Towers.
- Lots L and K, southeast of the stadium
- Lots H and 35, west of Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center.
- Stadium Drives North, East, South and West.
Vehicles left in these lots without an NIU Football Game Day Parking pass may be relocated at the owner’s expense. Students and faculty/staff who usually park in these areas are asked to seek alternative legal parking solutions during this time frame. To determine whether this will impact you, please review the map so that you can plan accordingly.

Nominations for the 2023 Outstanding Contributions to International Education Awards are now being accepted. The award winners will be announced during International Education Week (Nov. 13-17) at the International Recognition Reception which takes place 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in the Sky Room of the Holmes Student Center.
We’re seeking nominations for the following awards:
- Outstanding Department Contribution to International Education at NIU.
- Outstanding International Educator.
- Outstanding Staff Contribution to International Education.
- Outstanding Student Contribution to International Education (for a domestic student and a nonimmigrant student).
The due date for nominations is Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023

Charles Tillman presents "Unleash Your Potential: Lessons from On and Off the Gridiron."

Charles “Peanut” Tillman—former Chicago Bear, Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year awardee and one of the best cornerbacks of his era—is coming to NIU to speak about his journey to the NFL and beyond the gridiron. He'll share his insights on building the champion within that impacts the greater community at NIU, home and future communities after graduation.

NIU's Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Campus Center’s inaugural The Real Talk Conference: Bridging Race, Identity and Community is happening on Friday Oct. 27, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Holmes Student Center. Registration is now open.
In a cross-divisional partnership between the Divisions of Student Affairs and Academic Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the conference will offer space to engage in powerful conversations that promote understanding, increase empathy and facilitate change in our community. Experience dynamic speakers and interactive sessions led by NIU's students, faculty, staff and community members. Keynote speakers include Dr. Tia Brown McNair and Ainka Jackson and featured speakers include Dr. Caleb Stephens, Michelle Donahoe and Dr. LaVonya Bennett.
