Enter the President's Holiday Card Contest for a chance to win a scholarship!
President Lisa C. Freeman invites students to submit an original artistic design to be used as the 2023 NIU holiday card to help spread warmth and good cheer to the entire community. Entries should capture the spirit of campus life, winter and Huskie values. The holiday card should help convey to all Huskies—students, faculty, staff and alumni—that NIU cares and appreciates all.
Student Entries & Judging Process
Entries consisting of original artwork or photography can be submitted up until 5 p.m. on December 4, 2023. You may submit multiple entries by submitting this form. We encourage submissions to review past years winners that are featured on the president’s website, and think creatively about how to avoid repetition or duplication. A committee of faculty and staff will select the top three submissions based on quality, originality and holiday/Huskie spirit.

The students with the top three selections will receive a one-time scholarship (1st place $500, 2nd place $300, and 3rd place $100), and be featured in the president’s electronic holiday card.

Participate in a study about Asian American identity.
A researcher in the clinical psychology department at NIU, is currently conducting a 30- to 45-minute study examining how Asian American college students discussed race and racial discrimination with their parents throughout their lives. This study is also interested in college students’ feelings about their identity and their well-being. If you participate, you will respond to a series of questions about your personal experiences, well-being, and feelings about your identity, particularly in relation to race and ethnicity. In order to qualify for the study, you must identify as Asian/Asian American, be between 18 and 22 years of age, currently live in the United States, and be fluent in English. Your participation in this study may help in advancement of knowledge and science.
In addition, participants who complete the study will be entered into a drawing to win one of three $15 gift cards. If you are interested in participating, please complete the study. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the researcher at jphilip1@niu.edu.

NIU’s draft HLC Assurance Argument to be released in stages.
NIU’s Higher Learning Commission site visit will take place on March 25-26, 2024. In preparation, a team has spent the last 18 month preparing our Assurance Argument. We would like to solicit campus feedback. We invite all thoughts. In particular, if you have compelling examples that illustrate ways that NIU is meeting the criteria, we ask that you share them. We will use Qualtrics to collect feedback and release the draft argument. Criteria 1 and 2 will be released on Nov. 27, Criteria 3 and 4 will be released on Dec. 4, and Criterion 5 will be released on Dec. 11. All Qualtrics surveys will remain open until Jan. 12, 2024. We will be keeping the campus informed of each release by sending out weekly reminders.
