Northwestern Medicine updates universal masking guidelines.
Northwestern Medicine is updating universal masking guidelines for its facilities which include the Student Health Center at NIU to align with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations.
Beginning Monday, April 24, masks will be optional in public spaces and during routine clinical care at the Student Health Center. Masks will continue to be required according to clinical policies. This includes, for example, patient masking when respiratory symptoms are present, and clinician masking during the care of severely immunocompromised patients.
Masks will be required during the following scenarios:
- If a patient requests that their care team or others entering their room wear a mask.
- If a patient has respiratory illness symptoms.
Questions? Please call the Student Health Center at 815-306-2777.

Graduate student organizations to form Graduate Student Association.
We’re excited to share the news that graduate student organizations across NIU’s campus are coming together to form the Graduate Student Association (GSA). Our goal is to create a community for graduate students that empowers us to vocalize, represent, communicate, share, support and advance our interests and needs. Our organization aims to represent all graduate students regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, culture, political and historical background, or academic focus. We want to include representatives from as many NIU departments as possible – if you are a member of your department’s graduate student association or simply a single interested individual, please consider reaching out to include yourself in this organization.
We invite you to reach out to us at northern.illinois.gsa@gmail.com. We also have an Outlook mailing list which you can request to join. We’re collecting interests, needs and expectations from the members of NIU’s graduate student community. Our intention is to do this as inclusively possible, but that depends on your participation. Also, expect some future events that we’re planning and hosting near the end of this semester, and during the summer and fall semesters. Yours in solidarity.
Last chance to tell us how we’re doing.
As we, Campus Dining, conclude our campaign to gather valuable feedback, we’d like to give you one more opportunity to tell us how we’re doing. We’d appreciate it if you could please take a moment to complete a brief, anonymous survey regarding your most recent experience at one of our residential dining or retail dining locations. All are welcome to participate. Thank you.
