Waiving Student Health Insurance is an annual task.
If you are enrolled for nine or more hours, you are automatically billed for the NIU student health insurance plan unless all credit hours are entirely online. The university’s insurance program is offered through Aetna at a cost of $1,296.00 per semester. You may waive/opt out of coverage if other coverage is in place.
If enrolled, you will receive a notice to your NIU email with a link to go online and waive after the first billing cycle in July. The open enrollment/waiver period for the Fall 2023 semester will run from July through September 30, 2023.
You are not able to waive/optout before July and are encouraged to keep your eyes open for the email in July. Please contact the student health insurance office at studentinsurance@niu.edu if you have any questions or visit the Aetna student health insurance website for plan information.

Parking permits go on sale July 5, 2023.
Parking permits for the next academic year (2023-2024) are available online beginning July 5, 2023. Parking permits are virtual, so you will not receive a physical permit. Your license plate will act as your parking permit.
Our Customer Parking Portal provides convenient access to your parking account information. You can view your account, purchase a parking permit, make a ticket payment and update vehicle information.
A free parking option is also available. Those who take advantage of this option have a virtual green permit which allows for remote parking in Lot K on the west side of campus, just off Lincoln Highway.
For those only needing temporary parking, there are short-term parking options available. Short-term permits can be purchased online, and options include daily, weekly and monthly permits. Short-term parking is also available at pay stations and via the AMP Park mobile app.
You can visit our website for additional information. If you have any questions, please contact Parking Services at 815-753-1045 or parking@niu.edu.

"My planner is my lifeline. Find something that works well for you and your organizational style. I put everything in there so I can see it all at once. Outside of school and work, it is important to prioritize family, friends and time for me. Without doing these "fun" things I am not going to be able to apply myself in other "important" areas. Making time for it all is hard, but it is possible and asking for help is okay."

Looking for that perfect summer book? Check out these must-reads
When was the last time you read a book for fun? If it takes you a minute to remember, we get it. When you’re constantly reading for school, the last thing you want to do is pick up a novel and read more. You’re not alone in feeling that way, either. In a recent CampusWell survey, just under one-third of respondents said they don’t read for pleasure.
